Questions
What families ask us
What ages and hours do you serve?
The toddler room is for children ages 2 to 3, and the two primary rooms are for ages 3 to 5. A half day runs 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and the school day 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. The toddler room also has a three-morning week.
How does a tour work?
Tours run in October and January, in the morning while the rooms are working. A tour takes about an hour. You see both kinds of room, meet a guide and ask anything you like. Children are welcome to come along.
What sets tuition?
The room, your child's age, the schedule and the days a week. We do not print tuition on this site; the figures are on our enrollment page, and we go through them on a tour. How tuition works has the detail.
How is a place held, and how does the waitlist work?
An enrollment form and a deposit hold a place. When a room is full, families join a waitlist by room and schedule, and we offer places in the order families joined.
Is the school licensed, and what are the ratios?
Yes. The school is licensed by Oregon DELC, and the license line is at the bottom of every page. The adults-to-children ratios and group sizes for each age are on the license board.
What happens when a child is ill?
A child with a fever or a contagious illness stays home. If a child becomes ill at school, we call you right away, and a guide stays with the child until you arrive.
What about photos of my child?
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
How do you handle toilet learning?
In the toddler room, toilet learning is part of the day and goes at each child's pace. The primary rooms ask children to use the toilet on their own, and we help every child get there calmly. If your child is still learning, tell us at the tour and we will talk through what works.
How do you handle a hard day?
A guide stays close, gives the child time and words, and calls you if it helps. We tell you what happened at pickup and ask what you see at home, so we can work out the next day together.
What is a work cycle, and why are the rooms mixed in age?
The work cycle is a long, uninterrupted stretch of the morning when children choose their own work from the shelves. In a mixed-age room, younger children watch older ones, and older children teach what they know. Each child works at their own pace.
